The Concours d'Elegance and Carmel Car Week

The Carmel Youth Center organizes and mobilizes most of the concessions volunteers for the annual Concours d'Elegance at Pebble Beach (Sunday, February 12, 2017). In exchange for this effort, The Pebble Beach Company donates a percentage of the concessions proceeds to the CYC.

Additionally, the CYC partners with Carmel-by-the-Sea to provide a free shuttle service during Car Week to take visitors from Larson Field (on Rio Road) to the Sunset Center for Concours on The Avenue (Tuesday, February 7, 2017) and the Tour d'Elegance (Thursday, February 9, 2017). On those dates we need volunteer shuttle drivers (must be at least 25 years old) and parking attendants (all teens and adults welcome to volunteer).

FAQ

  • What type of jobs are there?
  • Most of the volunteer positions involve working in the Pebble Beach concession tents. The jobs are very easy and involve basic food handling (e.g. putting hot dogs in buns, putting lettuce on a sandwich, etc.). Some of the jobs involve assisting cashiers, or serving beverages. Other jobs involve moving products to where they are needed. The event can get very busy, so it's important that volunteers are prepared to work in a fast-paced environment. It's not busy all the time, but each tent will experience busy periods.
  • What do I wear?
  • Please wear BLACK SHOES, BLACK PANTS, BLACK BELT (if needed) and BLACK SOCKS. When you arrive at your assigned tent, you will be issued a Pebble Beach blue uniform shirt (SHIRTS MUST BE RETURNED at the end of your shift!). Please have your proper uniform on at all times while on duty. Please, NO HEELS and NO OPEN-TOED SHOES.
  • May I keep the Pebble Beach shirt?
  • Sorry. No. The Pebble Beach Company asks that you return the shirt after your shift. Besides, they're not the most attractive shirts; we doubt you'll want to keep it.
  • Where do I go?
  • Meet at The Carmel Youth Center (4th & Torres, Carmel, CA 93921) about an hour before your scheduled shift. We will provide a shuttle to and from the event. We'll make sure you have a map to your assigned tent. When the shuttle drops you off at Pebble Beach, you can also ask the drive to point you in the right direction.
  • What time should I be at the CYC?
  • Please arrive about an hour before your scheduled shift. Sometimes traffic makes it difficult to get volunteers to Pebble Beach quickly.
  • Where do I catch the shuttle?
  • Going to Pebble Beach: pick up the shuttle at the Carmel Youth Center (4th & Torres, Carmel, CA 93921). Shuttles will pick up at the CYC approximately every 15-30 minutes. After your shift: pick up the shuttle at the Casa Palmero Spa at Pebble Beach (which is where you were probably dropped off before your shift).
  • Can I stay and watch the event before or after my volunteer shift?
  • Yes. Just be sure to be at the shuttle pickup location in time for the last shuttle. Your volunteer packet will have that information for you.
  • Can I earn community service hours?
  • Yes. Please bring your school's official community service forms and we will make sure you receive credit for your volunteer hours. Just present your forms when you return to the CYC after your shift.
  • How old do I have to be to volunteer?
  • Volunteers must be at least 14 years old. We welcome all ADULTS and teens to join us. Many of our volunteers are well into their seventies and have been volunteering for the CYC since they were teenagers. Many families volunteer together; parents and teens working side-by-side. We also have many volunteers who are military personnel. All minors must have a volunteer waiver signed by a parent/guardian. Download the volunteer waiver here.
  • Can I register my friend?
  • Only with their permission, and only if you have their contact information and are allowed to share it with us.
  • Can I work with my friend?
  • Use the "Comments" field on the volunteer registration form to let us know if there is someone you would like to work with. We'll do our best to make that happen. However, sometimes we need to move volunteers from one tent to another depending on where volunteers are most needed.
  • Can I work in the same tent (or with the same Tent Leader) as last year?
  • Use the "Comments" field on the volunteer registration form to let us know if there is a specific tent you'd like to work in, or someone you would like to work with. We'll do our best to make that happen. However, sometimes we need to move volunteers from one tent to another depending on where volunteers are most needed.
  • How do I cancel?
  • If you need to cancel before the day of the event, send your cancellation to info@carmelyouth.com. On the day of the event, please call the CYC at 831-624-3285 to cancel for any reason.
